CARRY ON HOLTA

Polish international Rune Holta says his flying finish to 2009 gave him a major lift, and he is ready to claim the Swedish Elitserien title with new club Dackarna.

The Norwegian-born racer reached three out of the last four Grand Prix finals, earning second places at the Nordic and Slovenian SGPs, as well as fourth spot in the Polish round at Bydgoszcz.

This was enough to seal him seventh spot in the overall World Championship standings and guarantee him automatic qualification for this season’s series.

Holta will be fighting for glory with Czestochowa in the Polish Ekstraliga, after making the move from Gorzow. He has also switched clubs in Sweden after Dackarna signed the 36-year-old from Indianerna to replace Danish star Kenneth Bjerre.

Holta joins Andreas Jonsson, Freddie Lindgren, Hans Andersen and Peter Karlsson in a star-studded line-up. Dackarna have been tipped as one of the favourites to stop Lejonen’s bid for back-to-back titles, and Holta hopes he can play his part by taking his red-hot form into 2010.

He told barometern.se: “The second half of last season was one of my best ever and the motivation for this season could not be higher.

”We shall certainly be there fighting for medals. The chance to fight for gold is one of the reasons I'm here. I think our biggest rivals are Vetlanda and Lejonen.”

The chance to race most of his Swedish dates on a Grand Prix track was also a big reason for Holta to make the move to the G&B Stadium.

Malilla stages the Scandinavian SGP on August 14 and Holta believes racing for Dackarna will give him an edge in this meeting.

He added: ”That is part of why I chose Målilla – it is a GP track. Actually, I like bigger the lines at Vetlanda and Gislaved (Lejonen), but I usually pass well at Målilla.”
