HOLTA'S FAB 14
Polish star Rune Holta helped Dackarna keep up the pressure on Piraterna at the Swedish Elitserien summit after bagging 14 points as his side drew 48-48 at Vetlanda on Tuesday.
The Norwegian-born racer defeated world champion Jason Crump three times, but was unable to claim a paid maximum after being pipped to second spot by Lee Richardson in heat 14. He was then defeated by Jaroslaw Hampel in the evening’s final race.
Swedish Grand Prix duo Freddie Lindgren and Andreas Jonsson weighed in with 11 paid 14 and nine paid 10 respectively to ensure their side took the aggregate bonus point.
Polish young gun Grzegorz Zengota added eight paid nine as he covered for the injured Hans Andersen. But Aussie racer Rory Schlein picked up just one point after being called up to replace Peter Karlsson.
SGP star Hampel led the home side’s scorechart with a fantastic 15-point maximum, while Crump enjoyed mixed fortunes. He scored seven points in his opening three rides but was last in his final two.
Piraterna retained their 100 percent record this season, after winning 52-44 at Indianerna to waltz to the bonus point.
Only a 5-1 from Indians duo Piotr Protasiewicz and Renat Gafurov stopped Jonas Davidsson completing a maximum, as the in-form Swede racked up 13 points.
Russian racer Emil Sayfutdinov weighed in with 11 paid 13 on his first Swedish league outing of 2010. American legend Greg Hancock contributed 10, along with Polish scrapper Robert Kosciecha.
Protasiewicz led the home side with 12 paid 13, while Russian international Gafurov claimed 10 paid 13. SGP regular Magnus Zetterstrom recorded eight paid nine.
Elsewhere, champions Lejonen were held to a shock 48-48 draw by newly-promoted Valsarna.
Only Swedish star Daniel Nermark denied Nicki Pedersen a five-ride maximum when they met in heat 13. The Dane accrued 14 points, while Troy Batchelor scored eight paid nine.
Russian World Cup rider Grigory Laguta bagged 10 paid 12 for the visitors, while Nermark notched 10 paid 11. But Lejonen’s win in the reverse fixture saw them take the bonus point.
World No.2 Tomasz Gollob endured a nightmare meeting in Vastervik colours, but it was not enough to stop his side picking up a 49-47 home win and claiming the bonus point against Rospiggarna.
Gollob notched just four paid five from four outings, but 13 paid 14 points from Swedish international Peter Ljung saw his team triumph.
Tomasz Jedrzejak bagged 10 paid 11, while British champion Chris Harris recorded nine paid 10.
Rospiggarna’s top three enjoyed a sensational evening, with former SGP stars Ryan Sullivan banging in 16 paid 17 points and Wieslaw Jagus notching 14 paid 15.
Danish racer Mads Korneliussen scored 10 paid 11, but with their five team mates contributing just seven points between them, the Hallstavik outfit remains bottom of the Elitserien and without a point.
