LAST-HEAT HEROES
Grand Prix aces Rune Holta and Andreas Jonsson came to Dackarna's rescue as the Swedish Elitserien leaders salvaged their unbeaten record in an absorbing top-of-the-table clash with Piraterna at Motala on Tuesday night.
The Pirates led 20-10 after five races, but the Malilla-based Dackarna are made of stern stuff and quickly recovered before a run of six 3-3s left them trailing by two points going into the last race.
Holta (12) and Jonsson (11+1) then combined for a 4-2 over Greg Hancock and Rafal Dobrucki to earn a share of the spoils in a dramatic 48-48 draw.
Weakened Lejonen were well beaten at lowly Vargarna, whose 56-40 verdict was only their second win of the season.
The Lions were without Nicki Pedersen, Chris Holder, Mikael Max and Artur Mroczka and were always chasing their tails.
Torun SGP winner Tomasz Gollob maintained his fruitful form as Vastervik hit visiting Valsarna with a late flourish.
Valsarna led 34-32 after heat 11, but Vastervik then came good with two 5-1s and two 4-2s in the last five races to secure a 53-43 verdict.
Gollob, who retired in his first race, was unbeaten in his other four to finish with paid 12. Grand Prix colleague Chris Harris dropped just a point for Vastervik.
Pole Janusz Kolodziej also kept his impressive scoring going with a paid 15-point maximum as Elit Vetlanda swamped Indianerna 63-33.
Jaroslaw Hampel weighed in with 14 points and Jason Crump paid 14, the reigning World Champion losing only to Grzegorz Walasek.
Ex-GP man Walasek took the chequered flag three times, but he was Indianerna’s only race winner.
