FINISHED runner-up last year for the first time since 1999. A late season charge, with two victories in four rounds, brought Gollob into contention for the ultimate prize as Crump struggled with injury but it was at Bydgoszcz, where he has won seven times, that his challenge eventually fizzled out. Undoubtedly the best rider never to have won the World Championship during the Grand Prix era but despite his veteran status only a fool would bet against him even now.
