HAMMERS HALTED BY TURBO TWINS

Poole duo Chris Holder and Darcy Ward reeled off fantastic 14 paid 15-point maximums as the Dorset side stunned Elite League leaders Lakeside 48-42 at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday.
The Hammers had been tipped as title favourites along with the Pirates, but their big guns had no answer for the Aussie stars.
Grand Prix regular Holder teamed up with the double World Under-21 champion in heat 15 to bag a 5-1 over Peter Karlsson and their old Poole skipper Davey Watt to seal three league points.
This result moves Pirates on to 12 points from four meetings – three of which have been contested on the road following a string of Wimborne Road rain-offs.
Karlsson top-scored for Lakeside on eight paid nine, while Watt and British reserve Ritchie Worrall bagged eight apiece.
Elsewhere, SGP rider Chris Harris defied some difficult track conditions at Coventry to romp to a 12 paid 15-point maximum against his struggling former club Belle Vue.
The Bees triumphed 59-31 and Team GB international Scott Nicholls collected 13 paid 14, while Edward Kennett accrued nine paid 10.
Patrick Hougaard, who returned after recovering from his broken collarbone, led the Aces scorechart on eight. But the visitors felt the loss of Aussie rider Adam Shields, who withdrew from the meeting after retiring from heat three.
Meanwhile, Danish star Bjarne Pedersen scorched to a 16 paid 18-point full house for Holstebro as they won their opening league meeting 53-34 at home to champions Slangerup. Swedish racer Peter Ljung led the away team’s scoring on 15.
