SUPER SIX FOR AJ?

SUPER SIX FOR AJ?

Wednesday 6th June 2012, 12:57

World No.2 Andreas Jonsson is gunning for his sixth national title, but will have to win it on enemy shale as he prepares for the Swedish Championship Final at Vetlanda tonight.

AJ has claimed the crown three seasons on the trot at Malilla, where he races his Elitserien home fixtures for Dackarna. But tonight he will have to go to the home of his club’s nearest and biggest rivals to keep his golden streak intact.

Jonsson won his first title at Motala in 2006 and retained the prize at Kumla the following year. Former SGP star Magnus Zetterstrom is the only rider to have denied the Stockholm-born star top spot in the last six years, when he claimed the trophy at Avesta in 2008.

AJ faces some stiff competition for the title from Swedish SGP winner Freddie Lindgren, who will be desperate to end his run of three silver medals with a gold.

But local knowledge could be crucial and few know the Vetlanda track better than home town hero Thomas H Jonasson.

He will fancy his chances of claiming a maiden Swedish Championship along with SGP regular Antonio Lindback, who won the GP Challenge in Vetlanda last August.

Peter Ljung is also a Vetlanda specialist and will be keen to put his Grand Prix experience to good use.
