BOMBER BLASTS TO BERWICK MAX

Grand Prix star Chris Harris overcame some horrendous weather conditions to win his SGP qualification quarter final at Berwick with a 15-point full house.

Bomber went into the meeting as firm favourite to triumph, but all 16 riders faced a testing night as the track on the Anglo-Scottish border was lashed by rain for much of the day.

Covers were used on the bends, but with rain falling during the meeting, conditions became very tough. A track inspection was called after 12 races, but referee Marek Wojaczek allowed the action to continue.

The wet stuff didn’t stop the Cornishman, who finished fourth in the FIM Dansk Metal Danish SGP last Saturday, from keeping his dream of a place in the 2013 World Championship alive.

Australian racer Sam Masters is also in the semis after winning a run-off for second with Daniel King after they tied on 12.

The Brit will be delighted with third spot, particularly after only being handed a call-up when the injured Tai Woffinden withdrew.

American international Ryan Fisher cruised through on 11, while Australia’s Davey Watt made it on 10.

Linus Sundstrom, Krzysztof Buczkowski and Tero Aarnio all qualified on nine and Kenneth Hansen nicked the last place on seven.

These riders will now be drawn into the three semi-final meetings at Vojens, Divisov and Lonigo, which take place on June 30.

The top five from each of these will be guaranteed spots in the GP Challenge at Croatian SGP venue Gorican on September 29, where the first three become Grand Prix regulars for 2013.
