X-RAYS FOR CRUMP

X-RAYS FOR CRUMP

Sunday 26th August 2012, 07:42

Australian star Jason Crump is set for a visit to hospital after suffering a “suspected re-fracture of the collarbone” in the FIM Fogo British SGP in Cardiff on Saturday.

The 37-year-old exited the meeting prior to the semi-finals on six points and suffered a heavy tumble in heat 12, while trying to charge around wild card Scott Nicholls. Crump’s machine lifted and the rider did well to jump clear, but went face first into the fourth-bend air fence.

It was clear all was not well when the Bristol-born man was checked over by the track doctor after the incident. He bravely completed his five heat races, but Crump says he won’t be riding in Polish club Rzeszow’s Ekstraliga home meeting against Gdansk this afternoon.

"There’s something wrong and I’m not sure what at the moment. I just have to see what the extent of the damage is."

Tweeting late on Saturday night, he wrote: “Bad landing in crash for me. Suspected re-fracture of the collarbone. Won't be racing tomorrow. X-ray instead. Thanks to all the fans #awesome.”

Speaking straight after the meeting, Crump said: “It’s not right. There’s something wrong and I’m not sure what at the moment. I just have to see what the extent of the damage is. I can’t ride on Sunday – I have to go to the hospital before I can ride.”

Crump is now fourth in the World Championship on 103 points – 15 behind series leader Greg Hancock, and his Cardiff spill is a serious blow to his title hopes with three rounds to race.

Reflecting on the crash, the triple world champion said: “I was committed to the outside down the straight and Scott went into the corner a lot deeper than I thought he was going to. I just needed him to turn a bit earlier.

“Unfortunately, it was a bit grippier out there than I thought it was and I couldn’t quite hold on.

“It was a shame because we had made a couple of changes and I think they were good changes. I made a good start off gate three, but I didn’t pull it off around the third and fourth bend.”
