NKI NICKS DANISH TITLE

Niels-Kristian Iversen snatched his maiden Danish Championship after denying SGP star Nicki Pedersen his eighth crown in an epic final at Outrup on Friday night.
Pedersen topped the heat scorechart on 14 points and Iversen had to make do with second when they met in race 17. This meant the triple world champion had 28 points overall after accruing 14 in the first leg of the final at Holsted in May.
Iversen had 25 after scoring 13 on the night to earn his place in the Outrup final, where the top four met to decide medal positions for that meeting and the points counted towards the riders’ championship totals.
A win for NKI coupled with a last place for Pedersen was the only way he could have overhauled the Stevenage-based man.
But the World Championship chaser did not make the best of starts from gate three, while Iversen rocketed out of trap one. Pedersen was quickly filled in by Mads Korneliussen and Leon Madsen and, despite pushing Madsen for third, he couldn’t overhaul the Tarnow man.
With both Iversen and Pedersen tied on 28, NKI got the victory bumps as winning the Outrup medal race gave him the verdict in the title fight.
Madsen pipped Korneliussen to second on the run to the finish line, which handed him the bronze medal, despite the fact the two men tied on 21 points overall.
SGP regular Hans Andersen was fifth after scoring eight to end up on 19. Mikkel B Jensen followed the nine he scored at Holsted with an eight to record 17 overall.
Bjarne Pedersen and Peter Kildemand also finished on 17 apiece after they notched nine each and both accrued eight in the first leg.
Mikkel Michelsen tallied 14 overall, while Michael Jepsen Jensen endured a difficult night on his return from injury and managed just two to total 13.
