Polish hotshot Maciej Janowski stormed to a 15-point maximum to inspire his country to FIM Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship glory in Gniezno on Saturday.

Janowski was crowned World Under-21 champion on the circuit last October and was the only man to stop Australian talisman Darcy Ward when they met in heat 14.

Poland triumphed on 61 points as Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Patryk Dudek racked up 13 apiece. Tobiasz Musielak tallied 12 and Bartosz Zmarzlik added eight as the hosts won the title for the first time since 2009.

Ward, who bagged 14, inspired Australia to the silver medal on 44 points. His main support came from Swindon star Nick Morris, who impressed on 11.

Sweden picked up the bronze medals on 26 points, courtesy of 10 from Pontus Aspgren and nine from Anton Rosen.

Last year’s champions Russia were fourth on 17. Vladimir Borodulin was their top scorer on six.
