BACK IN THE BIG TIME?

BACK IN THE BIG TIME?

Polish star Krzysztof Kasprzak believes the time is right for him to end his four-year exile from the permanent SGP field as he prepares for the GP Challenge in Gorican tonight.

Kasprzak has served as second reserve for this year’s World Championship, covering for the injured Kenneth Bjerre in Cardiff and Vojens.

The Leszno-born man won the silver medal behind Poole team mate Chris Holder at the Millennium Stadium on August 25, but scored just four points in Denmark last Saturday in a meeting blighted by a crash and mechanical breakdowns.

KK was 14th in the World Championship in 2008 – his one and only season as a Grand Prix regular.

He feels ready to mix it with the big boys again, but knows getting a top three finish in Gorican will be hard work.

"Getting in the top three will be tough and I need the luck. If it all comes together with a good day and good engines, we’ll see."

The Gorzow man said: “I feel ready, but we’ll see what happens. Getting in the top three will be tough and I need the luck. If it all comes together with a good day and good engines, we’ll see.

“It has been alright when I have done the GP rounds this year. When I raced in 2008, I thought the GP was stronger. Now it’s easier, but you still have to be a good rider if you want to be there.”

One of Kasprzak’s biggest strengths is his gating. And with the Gorican track slick during Friday’s practice session, the rider says he will need to trap to have any chance of reaching the GP Challenge rostrum.

He said: “I raced here two years ago and it’s a difficult track. Unless you make starts, you cannot pass because when you’re behind, there is big spray as the track is really sandy. It will be all on the starts.

“We had practice yesterday, but I think the track will be a little bit different today. It’s always like that. I’ll just do my best.

“I know this is important and I will try my best. I have the best engines, I have a good team and we’ll see what happens.”
