ROSCO READY FOR PATCHED-UP POOLE

ROSCO READY FOR PATCHED-UP POOLE

Swindon boss Alun Rossiter has urged his side not to expect an easy ride, despite Darcy Ward sitting out tonight’s Elite League Grand Final decider at Poole.

The 20-year-old is replaced by SGP qualifier Niels-Kristian Iversen after being left with a bleed on the brain in an incident on Friday night.

Losing Ward, a master of Wimborne Road, comes as a hammer blow to the Pirates and arguably makes the Robins firm favourites to clinch their first league title since 1967.

"Niels-Kristian is a class act, and he has proved it this year. We can’t take our fingers off the pulse because that would probably be the biggest mistake we could ever make."

But Rossiter knows Iversen, a man in the form of his career, could still dash Swindon’s dreams.

He told the Swindon Advertiser: “If anyone thinks it makes things easier then you have to think again, because Niels-Kristian Iversen is a superb rider and has had the best season of his life.

“Now he has the opportunity to come in and take part in the final, so none of my riders or the fans can think that it is ours.

“Niels-Kristian is a class act, and he has proved it this year. We can’t take our fingers off the pulse because that would probably be the biggest mistake we could ever make.

“It could actually encourage them even more to try and do it for Darcy, so we need to be wary of that.

“Sometimes things like this have a bit of reverse psychology, so it will still be just as tough as when Darcy was there, and that is the attitude we will have.”
