HAGGLING OVER HAMPEL

Jaroslaw Hampel is being linked with a shock move to Bydgoszcz, which could clear the way for SGP rival Greg Hancock to rejoin Zielona Gora.

Polish star Jaroslaw Hampel is being linked with a shock move to Bydgoszcz, which could clear the way for SGP rival Greg Hancock to rejoin Zielona Gora for 2013.

Hampel has reportedly been in protracted talks with Falubaz, but after Bydgoszcz missed out on Nicki Pedersen to Rzeszow, it is believed they turned their attention to the former world No.2.

The SGP wild card would be a valuable addition to whichever club he joined as all Ekstraliga sides must track at least two Polish seniors and two Polish juniors in every starting line-up next year.

If Zielona Gora signed Hampel, they could team him up with Piotr Protasiewicz, meaning the club had its pick of SGP racer Andreas Jonsson, Mikkel B Jensen, Aleksandr Loktaev and Krzysztof Jablonski for the final three top five berths.

Our team could use another rider from the top shelf, but whether that happens to be Jarek, I cannot say. Perhaps a rider with a name of the same letter will join the team?

Robert Dowhan

But if they sign Hancock, they would be forced to use Jablonski in every meeting as their second Polish senior, although they still have the scoring power of Patryk Dudek at reserve.

Zielona Gora president Robert Dowhan admits he is in talks with Hampel, but hinted that a move for Hancock, who led the club to Ekstraliga gold in 2011, may be an option if they cannot reach an agreement.

He told Falubaz.com: “As long as both parties do not sign contracts, nothing is certain. Of course, I confirm that we are talking with Jarek, but whether we come to an agreement remains to be seen.

“Our team could use another rider from the top shelf, but whether that happens to be Jarek, I cannot say. Perhaps a rider with a name of the same letter will join the team?”

Bydgoszcz are desperately seeking a No.1 following Emil Sayfutdinov’s switch to Czestochowa and Hampel would be the answer to their prayers.

The club is set to announce its squad on Friday, but they already have Polish international Krzysztof Buczkowski, Robert Kosciecha, Szymon Wozniak and Mikolaj Curylo under contract.
