Team Great Britain international Edward Kennett’s stunning start to 2013 has earned him a deal with Polish Ekstraliga leaders Torun.

The Swindon and Berwick doubling-up man has been brought to the Marian Rose Motoarena as cover for injured SGP racer Darcy Ward, who faces a further five weeks out with a broken shoulder blade.

Kennett is only the second British rider to sign for a Polish Ekstraliga side this season and joins Wroclaw hotshot Tai Woffinden in one of world speedway’s toughest leagues.

Despite the Sussex rider’s limited experience outside of the UK, Torun boss Slawomir Kryjom says he was the best man on the market.

He told Sportowefakty.pl: “Recent performances from Edward in the British league and the British Final meant we decided to award him a contract. The market is so short of riders that we did not really have much choice.”

Kennett is not in the Torun side, which tackles Rzeszow at the Motoarena on Sunday.
