Polish captain Tomasz Gollob has been ruled out of Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Event 1 in Czestochowa this afternoon with a back injury.
The 42-year-old sustained the damage during a motocross training session. He will be replaced by FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship leader Patryk Dudek in the meeting, which starts at 15:00h local time (14:00H UK) after it was postponed due to rain on Saturday.
Dudek is fast emerging as one of Polish speedway’s brightest stars and has been in sublime form for Zielona Gora in the Polish Ekstraliga and Dackarna in the Swedish Elitserien.
He triumphed in the opening leg of the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final at Pila on June 29 and links up with SGP stars Jaroslaw Hampel and Krzysztof Kasprzak, as well as Maciej Janowski. Hampel captains the Polish team.
The Poles compete against Australia, Russia and Latvia with the winners earning a spot in the Monster Energy SWC Final in Prague on Saturday. The second and third-placed nations enter the Race Off, also in Prague, on Thursday.
