Polish international Piotr Pawlicki is delighted to have secured a new contract with hometown team Leszno as he boards the plane to Melbourne for the QBE Insurance Australian SGP on Saturday.

The man placed sixth in the World Championship joins Russian star Emil Sayfutdinov in agreeing terms with the Bulls for 2017.

Pawlicki’s future was up in the air throughout last winter when it was announced he and his brother Przemyslaw were leaving the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium.

Cutting off any speculation, I can confirm that I have not spoken to any other club; Leszno always takes priority.

While Przemek completed a switch to Gorzow, winning the Ekstraliga, Piotr made a shock U-turn and stayed at Leszno, who fell short of the play-offs as the title they won in 2015 slipped away.

But there are no doubts about Piotr’s plans for 2017 this year. He wasted no time in penning a contract with his boyhood club and is determined to get the Ekstraliga championship back.

He said: “I am very glad that I stay for another season in Leszno. I always emphasised that I wanted to compete for Leszno. Cutting off any speculation, I can confirm that I have not spoken to any other club; Leszno always takes priority.

“Now I can calmly prepare for the final round of Speedway Grand Prix in Melbourne. Then after a short rest, I’ll start preparing for the new season.

“We’ll see you at the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium next year! We're going for the highest goals and we hope that you will be with us.”

Pawlicki, currently sixth in the World Championship, is just 10 points away from guaranteeing himself a place in the 2017 SGP series.
