IPONE German SGP winner Matej Zagar continued his white-hot form with a sensational 17 points for Smederna as they romped to a 52-38 Swedish Elitserien play-off semi-final, first leg win at Masarna on Tuesday.

The Eskilstuna outfit, bottom of the table last season, put one foot in this year’s final courtesy of a sublime six rides from Zagar, who raced to a 15-point maximum in last week’s quarter final in Malilla.

He dropped just one point to double world champion Tai Woffinden in his third ride, with the Brit leading the Masarna response on 13.

Zagar was backed up by 10 paid 11 from reserve Pontus Aspgren, with Andzejs Lebedevs adding a straight 10 and Mikkel Michelsen racing to eight paid 12.

Woffinden was aided by GP Challenge winner Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Stockholm SGP wild card Kim Nilsson, who notched nine apiece, while Antonio Lindback managed only four paid five.

In the other tie, Polish champion Szymon Wozniak raced to his second victory of the night over World Championship leader Jason Doyle to snatch Vetlanda a 46-44 first-leg triumph away to Rospiggarna.

Wozniak led SGP star Bartosz Zmarzlik to a 4-2 in heat 15 as the table-topping side gave themselves a vital lead. The world No.3 was Vetlanda’s top performer on 13, with Wozniak tallying 10, Oliver Berntzon adding nine paid 10 and Martin Vaculik scoring five.

Swedish racer Andreas Jonsson still top-scored on eight paid 11, despite being excluded from heat 15, while Jason Doyle added eight paid 10 and Timo Lahti registered a straight eight.

Both deciders take place on Wednesday night.
