KURTZ & TUNGATE TIED IN AUSSIE TITLE RACE

Brady Kurtz put himself firmly in the hunt for Australian title No.2 after drawing level with Rohan Tungate at the top of the standings.

Former Aussie champ Brady Kurtz put himself firmly in the hunt for Australian title No.2 after drawing level with Rohan Tungate at the top of the standings in Mildura on Friday.

In a meeting won by Torun and Somerset star Jack Holder, Kurtz powered to a 15-point maximum in the heats, before finishing second ahead of Tungate and Sam Masters in the A Final.

Holder and Masters both registered 13 in the heats to cruise into the last four, but Tungate had to do things the hard way after a turbulent night in Victoria.

Despite scoring seven points from his opening three rides, he managed just one in his final two heats and only just made the B Final cut on countback with eight points ahead of Josh Pickering and Jye Etheridge.

But he pulled out a massive ride to win that race, taking to the dirt with desire to see off Max Fricke, Mason Campton and Jordan Stewart in the battle for the one remaining A Final spot.

The extra two points he accrued in the medal race ensured Kurtz didn’t snatch the championship lead and the pair are deadlocked on 45 going into the title decider at Adelaide track Gillman on Sunday, with Tungate seeking his maiden crown and Kurtz his second in three years.
