PRZEMEK'S CHAMPION POTENTIAL?

Przemyslaw Pawlicki believes he has what it takes to be world champion, but says reaching the top eight is his “minimum plan."

GP Challenge winner Przemyslaw Pawlicki believes he has what it takes to be world champion, but says reaching the top eight is his “minimum plan.”

The Polish international makes his full-time series debut this season and has some tough acts to follow after watching Patryk Dudek, Maciej Janowski and Bartosz Zmarzlik finish second, fourth and fifth respectively in 2017.

Dudek and 2016 bronze medallist Zmarzlik already have podium places to their name and Pawlicki is also keen to make an impact.

While he is confident he has what he needs to be world champion, his first goal is ensuring he’s back for 2019 by claiming a place in the top eight, with plenty of time on his side to win the sport’s biggest prize.

He said: “In my head, I think that if everything worked perfectly this year, I have a chance to be world champion. But my plan is to be in the first eight riders and stay in the Grand Prix for next year. This is the first year I have been in there, so that’s my plan – my minimum plan.

“But I know that when everything is working, when I do very good work in the winter and everything looks good in the season, I have a chance for something more.

“Patryk Dudek was second in his first season and Bartek Zmarzlik was third in 2016. I want to do something more. I’ll do everything I can to be world champion, but I have time to do that.”
