SO CLOSE TO A MAGIC-AL NIGHT

Maciej Janowski was happy with reaching a second BOLL Warsaw SGP rostrum, but admitted “I tried so hard to get this win for the fans."

Polish star Maciej Janowski was happy with reaching the BOLL Warsaw SGP rostrum for the second year running, but admitted “I tried so hard to get this win for the fans.”

Janowski had to be content with second spot at PGE Narodowy after Great Britain ace Tai Woffinden topped the box for the second time in three years.

Magic defied some early clutch troubles to grab nine points in his heats before following Freddie Lindgren home in his semi-final to reach the last four. But he was unable to become the first Polish winner in Warsaw, despite putting up a huge fight against Wroclaw team mate Woffinden in one of the greatest finals witnessed in recent years.

Reflecting on his night at PGE Narodowy, Janowski said: “That was a really tough meeting and a tough night. Maybe I needed to go a little wider in the final, but Tai was very quick and Freddie was quick.

“We worked very hard all night and tried to get every point, so I am really happy we finished like that.

“I tried so hard to get this win for the fans. It was hard; especially from gate four. It was a very hard gate. But I’m happy with what I got. It was a good start to the season and the points were not so bad, so game on!

“It was a very tough meeting and it will be a very tough year. There are some very strong riders in the series, but I am ready for the hard work.”
