LAMBERT SET FOR GP CHALLENGE

Cardiff wild card Robert Lambert could crown a sensational season by qualifying for SGP 2019 after receiving a GP Challenge wild card.

Adrian Flux British SGP wild card Robert Lambert could crown a sensational season by qualifying for SGP 2019 after receiving a wild card for the GP Challenge in Landshut on July 28.

The King’s Lynn icon has already won Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations silver and completed a British senior and Under-21 Championship double this year, as well as booking his spot in Cardiff on July 21.

But a week after that big date at the Principality Stadium, he’ll get the chance to earn a full-time FIM Speedway Grand Prix spot via the GP Challenge.

Lambert is joined by former SGP regulars Piotr Pawlicki and Martin Smolinski and Czech racer Vaclav Milik in receiving a call-up from the FIM.

Pawlicki suffered the agony of hitting the tapes in his final ride at his qualifier in Abensberg, finishing just a point short of qualification, while Milik has established himself as one of the strongest stars outside the SGP line-up.

Smolinski will fancy his chances of qualification in Landshut as the Bavarian favourite lines up on his Bundesliga home track.

The four wild cards are joined by the likes of SGP stars Matej Zagar and Craig Cook, with former World Championship regulars Krzysztof Kasprzak, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Antonio Lindback, Janusz Kolodziej, Kenneth Bjerre and Hans Andersen all seeking SGP returns.

The top three in Landshut will be guaranteed places in the 2019 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series.

FULL GP CHALLENGE LINE-UP: 1 Vaclav Milik, 2 Antonio Lindback, 3 Robert Lambert, 4 Niels-Kristian Iversen, 5 Martin Smolinski, 6 David Bellego, 7 Kenneth Bjerre, 8 Craig Cook, 9 Krzysztof Kasprzak, 10 Hans Andersen, 11 Piotr Pawlicki, 12 Max Fricke, 13 Kevin Wolbert, 14 Janusz Kolodziej, 15 Matej Zagar, 16 Jack Holder, 17 Valentin Grobauer, 18 Max Dilger.
