Former Danish team manager Jacob Olsen is set to take over the reins at Vojens Speedway Center from legendary father Ole in 2019.

Ole Olsen built Denmark’s national speedway stadium in 1975 – the year he won the second of his three World Championships.

I think the time is right for me to return to the sport I love so much. I see many opportunities, both for Vojens Speedway Center, and for the sport.

Jacob Olsen

He was the nation’s first World Final winner and launched an era of dominance for the Danes in the eighties and nineties as Vojens became a regular stage for the sport’s very biggest events.

The Danish SGP returns to the venue in 2019 on September 7, and Jacob is looking forward to taking charge of newly-formed company Speed1way at Vojens from January 1, 2019.

Jacob, a former rider, team manager and commentator, who runs the Design Cykler chain of bike shops in his homeland, said: "I think the time is right for me to return to the sport I love so much. I see many opportunities, both for Vojens Speedway Center, and for the sport.”

Ole Olsen will still be very much part of speedway in 2019, as he continues with his temporary track-building work in the SGP series.

He’s delighted to see Vojens’ future in safe hands. He said: "I am relieved and very proud that the future is looking bright for the stadium.

“I am convinced that Jacob is the right person to continue my work. It is not only because he is my son, but he is simply the right man for the job.

“He is very devoted to and passionate about the sport and he has a huge drive and a big network.”
