AMERICAN RACER BECKER INTO SGP QUALIFIERS

USA shooting star Luke Becker took a step closer to his FIM Speedway Grand Prix dream after winning the American Final at Perris.

USA shooting star Luke Becker took a step closer to his FIM Speedway Grand Prix dream after winning the American Final at Perris on Saturday.

The Wolverhampton racer topped the podium after triumphing in a run-off with Austin Novratil and Ricky Wells after they tied on 13 points.

Becker and Novratil will now fly the American flag in one of the SGP qualifying rounds in Glasgow or Lamothe Landerron in May, where they will fight for a spot in the GP Challenge at Gorican on August 24.

Fourth place went to Broc Nicol on 12, while Max Ruml raced to 11 and Gino Manzares tallied 10.

The victory comes as another huge boost to Becker, who made a promising European debut when he joined idol and mentor Greg Hancock at Polish Second Division club Rzeszow last summer.

And having met the criteria for a UK visa with a top-four finish in the USA Championship, he will make his debut for Wolves in 2019.
